New Innovations: Subacromial Shoulder Balloon Arthroplasty
The InSpace subacromial balloon spacer (Stryker) is a minimally invasive, biodegradable, FDA-cleared implant. The InSpace spacer is a temporary spacer that restores the anatomic relationships between the shoulder's bones. The spacer is designed to restore the subacromial space without the need for fixation devices or sutures. It can be inserted arthroscopically through a half inch incision. No immediate lifting or motion restrictions after the incisions have healed. The spacer degrades within 6-12 months. It's use may avoid the need for more invasive surgery such as reverse total shoulder replacement.
